ACC English School Job Information

THE ACC ADVANTAGE

After deciding to come to Japan and teach, you have to make the decision of where to go.

What part of Japan? What company?

These are the two most important questions you must ask yourself.

Landscape from JR Central TowersWhen thinking about Japan people always start with Tokyo.

Is it BIG? Is it exciting? Is it expensive? Is it crowded? It's all of these things and much more.

It's a city with about the same population and more wealth than the entire state of California.

But can you live there? It is also the most expensive city in the world but the starting salary for English teachers is the same throughout Japan.

Rent for a small room is about $700-$800 a month! Food and entertainment is also more expensive than anywhere else in Japan.

Tsuruma Park (Nagoya City)Is all of Japan expensive?

NO!

Of course other big cities while being cheaper than Tokyo are still expensive.

Rural areas have a much much lower cost of living.

But you don't want to live in some isolated little town in the middle of nowhere Japan?

How about ACC then?

All of ACC's teachers live in company furnished apartments in the suburbs of Nagoya, Japan's third largest city.

Some apartments are only a 20-minute train ride to the center of Nagoya!

Since this is the suburbs, there are mega-malls, discount stores, and entertainment complexes. And they're cheaper!

Shiratori Park & Horikawa canalWhen you want the excitement of the big city, Nagoya is there waiting for you.

It has everything you would expect to find in any cosmopolitan city: shopping, fine dining, nightlife, professional sports, museums, art galleries, etc.

Another great feature that Nagoya offers is its location; it's in the center of Japan.

Take the Shinkansen (the Bullet Train / wikipedia) to Tokyo and it will only take 90 minutes! Osaka and legendary Kyoto are even closer.

Want to go skiing in Nagano, the home of the 1998 Winter Olympics? Want to swim or surf on world class beaches?

Such activities are just a short train or car ride away from the Nagoya area.

Xmas partyWhat about working conditions?

The big conversation schools in Japan offer very little to their teachers.

Their big corporate style is geared strictly for profits. Teachers' and students' concerns and needs are irrelevant.

Ask former teachers of one of these schools and they will tell you the same thing.

At ACC it's different. If you have a problem with something or need help, the PRESIDENT of the company is there ready to help you.

ACC is run like a family business and all the teachers are treated like members.

ClassroomAlso, at ACC teachers are TEACHERS.

You don't have to conduct sales. You don't have to spend your time pandering to prospective students.

In fact, when you don't have a class you don't even have to be at school!

The big schools will make you stay at the school for 8 hours a day even if you don't have any classes.

Why? Because you have to handle the prospective students!

At ACC if you only have 3 classes on a given day, then you don't have to be at the school beyond those teaching hours. Just prepare for your classes. That's all we ask!

ACC Hekinan SchoolHowever, don't get the impression that ACC is some small school.

ACC was established in 1988, now has eight schools, and is still growing.

There are many small schools that spring up all over Japan each day.

Even if they show promise, the majority end up closing their doors, often suddenly leaving teachers in very difficult predicaments.

ACC is a solid company looking to bigger and brighter future.
